Our Pastor & First Lady

I Timothy Ch. 3:1-7 This is a true saying, If a man desire the office of a bishop, he desireth a good work. A bishop then must be blameless, the husband of one wife, vigilant, sober, of good behavior, given to hospitality, apt to teach; Not given to wine, no striker, not greedy of filthy lucre; but patient, not a brawler, not covetous; One that ruleth well his own house, having his children in subjection with all gravity; (For if a man know not how to rule his own house, how shall he take care of the Church of God?) Not a novice, lest being lifted up with pride he fall into the condemnation of the devil.

Bishop C.C. Berry, Jr is the Pastor of Ewing Street and the Presiding Bishop of our General Assembly Church of the Living God, Pillar and Ground of the Truth Organization. This man of God is a visionary and a charismatic leader in which his life reflects his deep faith in God. A lifelong believer in service leadership, the life and legacy of Bishop Berry, Jr. will be one that will reflect the verse in Matthew Ch. 25:21;”His Lord said unto him, Well done, thou good and faithful servant: thou hast been faithful over a few things, I will make thee ruler over many things: enter thou into the joy of thy Lord.”

As the Spiritual leader and servant of our church for over 50+ years, Bishop Berry has dedicated his life to preaching and teaching God’s Word to all, communicating the vision of God for the church, developing and coordinating the ministry so that it effectively meets the spiritual, social and physical needs of members and the community. Bishop Berry leads the Deacon and Trustee Board in setting church policy and programs that are grounded in biblical principles.

As the chief executive officer, Bishop Berry oversees a church campus that houses our family life center, a daycare, home health care agency, several rental properties and other parcels of land. Bishop has the enormous task of ensuring the church’s financial health and operational well being, which includes seeking monetary donations and in-kind resources, and maintaining the appropriate facilities and staff who are committed to Christ and the vision of the church.

Bishop Berry is married to 1st Lady Sis. Billie Berry, his life-long partner and co-laborer in the ministry. They are the Proud Parents of seven kids, Linda, Calvin, Steve, Jackie, Andrew (A.J.) Cynthia and Wendell as well as being Very Proud of a host of grandchildren and great grandchildren alike.

Sis. Billie Berry is known as the 1st Lady of our Church at Ewing Street and the General Assembly. Sis. Berry is from Tyler, Texas where her father, the Late Elder Felder Sanders served as the Pastor of the Tyler Palace St. Church of the Living God. She has been involved in the Church of the Living God, P.G.T. all of her life and has served alongside her husband, Bishop C.C Berry, Jr. throughout their entire marriage.

She wears her role as 1st lady with class and dignity and is always sitting upfront in support of her husband and participating in the services when called upon. With her quiet and graceful demeanor, she has assumed an active role at Ewing Street and the General Assembly for that matter, where she is known to give speaking presentations and deliver spiritual wisdom to others about living for God, leading your family and doing the best you can. Attend one of our Church services and you may hear her singing her favorite songs, “Going Up Yonder”, “His Eye is On the Sparrow” or “I Love to Praise His Name”, to the delight of the congregation.

Sis. Berry and Bishop Berry founded the GLOW Society (God’s Loving Outreach Workers), organized to give the Mission Department a new way of serving and doing God’s work. She also has a computer center named after her, Billie Joyce Multipurpose Center at Cleme Manor Apartments in Houston, Texas. This computer center received national prominence after The Houston Multifamily Housing in collaboration with the Magic Johnson Foundation, dedicated the Magic Johnson and Hewlett Parkard Inventor Center at the HUD-sponsored learning center. Earvin “Magic” Johnson, Jr. who attended the dedication, was on hand to donate computers to the center and talk with those in attendance.

In addition to being a great wife to Bishop Berry, a supportive mother for her family and a dedicated member of our Church, more can be said of Sis. Berry and her Christian life. If you read Proverbs Ch. 31:10 where the question is asked; “Who can find a virtous woman? For her price is far above rubies. This is our 1st Lady! If you continue reading that same chapter, Proverbs 31:11-31, you would get a good look at the life and story of our very own, Sis. Billie Berry.
